The Golden Compass

Here are some great resources for connecting with your student/family/friends on The Golden Compass.

I am refreshed that this approach to The Golden Compass is one of sound reason and consistent love, as apposed of narcissistic uber-fundamentalist knee jerk reaction to an worldly thing.  I think whether or not you choose to go to the movie or read the books, we as a church, need to be intellectually honest and peal back the layers of Phillip Pullman's story. You can start by downloading the bible study down below (all three are the same, just in different formatts) and I would also suggest reading "Dark Matter" by Tony Watkins...who does a good job of looking at Philip Pullman's life, his upbringing, Pullman's source material that he has "relied" on, and a break down of the triology. Please do not close the book, on this book (The Golden Compass), without knowing why you should or should not.

Martin Luther said, "Whether you fall off the front of the boat or the back of the boat you are still wet". Balance is what we need here to be a relevant light to a dark world.  There is freedom in Christ but we must not do something that causes a weaker brother/sister to fall. There is the rub. On this matter you must go to the Holy Spirit and "work out" (Philipian 2:12) what to do with this triology juggarnaut. Read or not to read, watch or not to watch that is up to you and the Holy Spirit.

Here is the link to "Dark Matter" and below is the bible study.

Salvation

  • Prayer_of_salvation
Good or Bad Behavior does not determine Salvation. God is calling you to Him right now...He wants to give you the faith...He wants to hold you in His arms for all of eternity. Belive/know that Jesus died and rose again for all of your sins and has paid your price so that you appear blamless before God. Belief In Jesus Christ Determines Salvation...pray the prayer listed with every word as your belief. Then email me and I will be there to help you along. mcbee@aic.org As A Servant, Stephen A. McBee
